- Estate PlanningJay Caraway joined the firm in the Of Counsel role after his retirement from the Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeal. For 21 years, he served on the Court which is the principal appellate court for North Louisiana. His rulings on the Court covered all areas of civil and criminal law in approximately 2700 direct appeals. Jay is an honor graduate of the LSU Law Center and has returned to the school on multiple occasions as an adjunct professor, teaching Oil and Gas law. Prior to his election to the Court in 1996, Jay practiced law for 15 years with Blanchard, Walker, O’Quin and Roberts, with trial experience in various business litigation and in Louisiana property and oil and gas disputes. Jay handled significant cases appealed to the various Louisiana appellate courts, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal, and the United States Supreme Court. Jay has made presentations on multiple occasions at the LSU Mineral Law Institute and previously served on the Advisory Committee for the Institute. As a judge, Jay made continuing legal education presentations to lawyers across the state on numerous topics, including torts, succession and estate planning, security interests, property and oil and gas law, and appellate practice.
