First off, I HATE not recommending independently owned businesses, as I generally support them and I have always looked past this place's high prices for the fact that the store is convenient and the staff is friendly. However, today my experience at the Short Stop was anything but pleasant. I live at The Plaza down the street and always enjoy taking my dog on a short walk with me down the street while I run some errands. I have taken her in to this place several times and never once has anyone said anything (except noting how adorable she is and doting on her). I came in today to use western union with my 12 pound docile dog with me. The woman behind the counter said "you can't have your dog here." I said "she is a service dog." she said "show me her badge." I responded "I have had her here several times, there's never been a problem. I just need to make a quick transaction here and I will be right out. Can I speak to the manager please?" She rudely replies "I AM the manager! she has to go." I said "ok." So I complied and took my tiny dog out and tied her around a pole in the sweltering heat. I politely asked her what her name was, I had never seen her before and I came here often. She rudely said "Nancy. I am the manager here. (As if I didn't already hear her the first time. I must be incompetent.) Would you like the owner's number as well?" She said in a snarky tone. I said "no thanks, I could find that information on my own." After my transaction, out I went and Never will I return. I understand there are guidelines but clearly this woman had a "Mall cop" mentality. She could have been nicer or more understanding about the situation. It wasn't like I drove. I couldn't put my dog in the car. This woman did NOT care. You would have thought I was walking into the Taj Mahal the way she acted! Ummmm LADY it's a CONVENIENCE store and I know rules are rules but be nice. What I don't understand is, ever since I have been coming to this place (since August) There are always bums hanging out at night begging for money. Never ONCE have I NOT been hit up for money as I walk in and out of the doors at this place. Now THAT is bad for business. A smart management team would kindly tell the bums to leave, as I find that offensive and it's quite a put-off, and actually makes young females such as myself feel uncomfortable. We have pool parties here often at The Plaza and I generally go to the shop stop for all my alcohol and snack supplies but sadly I will no longer be supporting this store until Nancy is gone. I truly enjoyed all of the men who work here, they are nothing but chill and friendly. But as a consumer I can't support a business I don't believe I was treated properly. I have told my neighbors about this situation today as well. A note to Short Stop: Sherman oaks is a very dog friendly neighborhood so I would suggest chilling out on the strict dog policy; at least for small dogs. I've never had a problem at other convenience stores taking my dog to run errands with me. I honestly have only wrote a few yelp reviews in my life, but my experience today angered me enough to take the time out and write. I hope the new management works out for you.
