- Dental ExaminationThe content of a dental exam differs from dentist to dentist, at the Shelton Dental Center a check up visit often starts with one of our hygienists or one of the doctors completing an oral exam, jaw exam, and cancer screening. We will inspect your mouth, head and neck, and the lymph nodes around your jaw. After this, we will look inside the mouth and make sure that the soft tissues and tongue are free of any sores or growths. To determine if your bite is working properly, we will have you open and close your mouth repeatedly a few times and check for any signs of clenching, grinding or joint disorder.

- FillingsTraditionally, dentists only had silver amalgams available to fill cavities. Innovations in Dentistry now allow us to replace these old fillings with composite that are more natural looking. Say goodbye to “metal mouth” and hello to a beautiful new smile. Composite fillings are a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium. Composite fillings provide good durability and resistance to moderate forces. Some forms of composite, called glass ionomers, release fluoride for filling areas near the gum-line or for children’s fillings. They are less durable and can not be used in posterior teeth. Composites can be “bonded” or adhesively held in place, therefore less tooth structure is removed, allowing the dentist to make a more conservative repair to the tooth. This may result in a smaller filling than that of an amalgam. It generally takes longer to place a composite filling than what is required for an amalgam filling. Composite fillings require a cavity that can be kept clean and dry during filling and they are subject to stain and discoloration over time. Composite resins can restore teeth to an attractive, healthy state.

- VeneersIt is always recommended that a set of veneers are done at the same time so the color and shape match is perfect.
- CrownsA bridge is one of many options for replacing a missing tooth. First, there must be a tooth on either side of the space to anchor the bridge. These anchor teeth are prepared to accept a covering, like a crown, and have a tooth fused between them that rests gently on your gums, this creates the appearance of a natural tooth. The bridge is then permanently cemented in place.
- BridgesCrowns can be crafted to repair a single tooth, multiple teeth (including the entire mouth), or in conjunction with dental implants to fill a space. In fact, when missing teeth enter the equation, special consideration might be given to placing a dental bridge or implants.
- Root Canal TreatmentAny trauma or infection of the nerve will result in the need for root canal therapy. Common reasons for root canal therapy include...
- DenturesRemovable partial dentures can be a good option for replacing multiple teeth all at the same time with minimal impact on the other teeth in the arch. However, patients are less satisfied with removable appliances due to discomfort, maintenance, and functional concerns. For this reason, this is the last option we recommend. And in certain cases we warn strongly against going this route. Despite their disadvantages, we recognize the partial denture can be a useful solution to patients missing multiple teeth.
- Dental ImplantsWhen a tooth is missing, several options might be available for you. Implants and Bridges are among the most popular options for tooth replacement, although all possibilities deserve consideration.
- Oral SurgeryExtractions, although minor, can be one of the more intimidating treatments. Our doctors are comfortable with oral surgery ranging from simple tooth extractions to impacted wisdom teeth extractions and full mouth extractions for dentures. By using up to date surgical techniques and current techniques in analgesics, such as Nitrous and Oral Sedation, we are able to provide a comfortable surgical experience.
