I wanted to share a story about my 6 year old daughter, Gracie. At the beginning of her first grade year, my husband and I were concerned when we started receiving phone calls yet again from her school teacher. She was being the class clown and having behavior issues. We could not understand why she was acting out at school, when she is such a well behaved child at home. Through many meetings at her school with the school board, we came to realize that her behavior issues were a symptom of her learning. Gracie was not keeping up with the other kids in her class. She was reading at a full grade level lower than were she should be at. We received a flyer about Shepherd's Learning Center. When I spoke with Jodi on the phone that afternoon, I knew that they would be able to help.
Today Gracie just finished first grade and she is now caught up to grade level. We will continue to keep her focusing on her learning at Shepherd's Learning Center. It is so wonderful to see how Gracie now is picking up books to read on her own. She would have never done that 6 months ago. This program has given us so much hope. It is such a beautiful thing to see the confidence in Gracie today.
My daughter, Jacki, attended Shepherd's Learning Center the summer of 2007. This was between her 6th and 7th grade years. At the end of 6th grade she was assessed with the use of the MAP testing. Her comprehension level was that of a 3rd to 4th grader. She attended Shepherd's Learning Center for reading two times per week and math two times per week. Jacki's goal for 7th grade was to be placed in the Pre-Algebra Math class. She did attain this goal. Along with this, she became a reader over the summer. Her confidence blossomed as her reading ability grew. She reads continually....3 books in one month!! Returning to school for her 7th grade year she again took the MAP Testing. She scored at the 10th grade reading level!! Thank you Shepherd's Learning Center!! Jacki's Mom
