Established in 1909, the Setauket Fire Department is a volunteer organization that works to provide fire, emergency rescue, and vehicle and hazardous material response services. It also responds to hazardous material spills, elevator entrapments, vehicle fires, motor vehicle accidents, and confined space, high-angle rope and collapse rescue requirements. The department maintains a communication center that coordinates responses to fire and medical emergency and nonemergency calls. The Setauket Fire Department serves an area of more than 25 square miles. It provides information regarding emergency preparedness and fire safety. The department is comprised of over 10 staff members. The Setauket Fire Department also maintains a training unit. It is located in Setauket, N.Y.
