I would NOT recommend Open Adoption & Family Services of OR/WA to prospective adoptive parents. First, the agency does not put a cap or maximum on the number of prospective adoptive families in the waiting pool. Second, the agency collects approximately half (approx. $11K - $12K) in non-refundable fees prior to the adoptive family entering the waiting pool. Once in the pool, the family waits indefinitely for a match. The agency presents statistics that the average wait in the adoptive family pool is about 12 to 15 months. Those stats sound reasonable; however, their average wait statistics do not account for families who enter the pool, wait years, and ultimately give up or go elsewhere. Mathematically speaking, one can not average what never happens. The agency does NOT provide prospective adoptive parents with statistics on how many families leave the pool without adopting.
