The Gift of Music Piano Studio
General Info
Welcome to the Gift of Music Piano Studio. Discover the magic of the piano with an experienced, dedicated, and nurturing teacher who will share the joy and beauty of music with you or your child. My Vision as a Teacher To awaken the love of music and the piano is by guiding and mentoring each student’s potential, sensitivity, imagination, artistry, and self-confidence. To build a foundation of abilities that will allow a lifelong enjoyment of the piano. To share this rich musical journey in a spirit of adventure, excitement, wonder, and joy When I was nine years old we inherited a piano. But before that time, whenever I saw a piano, I was drawn to touch the keys and play. From the time I started lessons, I knew I wanted to be a pianist. After about a year of lessons, I decided I wanted to play the B-flat minor Sonata of Chopin and went down to the music store in our small town to buy it. Of course my teacher gently gave me many other shorter works by my favorite composer first. At age twelve, I saved my allowance for months and bought a bust of Chopin at a little gift store in town. I still have it to this day, one of my most cherished possessions. Ever since I was in Music School I have had the pleasure of working with children age five and older and adults at the intermediate-early advanced level. I encourage students to rent or buy a piano rather than a keyboard and devote as much time as possible to practicing, which I refer to as enjoying the piano and making music every day at home. Since I am a classical pianist, my goal is to provide exposure to the great classical composers and masterpieces of music and to lead my students into that repertoire. Student/teacher relationships are warm and respectful. Besides the serious study of music, we experience laughter and high spirits during our time together. In this age of technology, it is a precious experience for students to work with a personal mentor and study a time- honored art. And for the teacher it is a privilege, a responsibility, and a joy to guide each student towards finding the music that is within each of us. Because each student is a unique person and musician, all lessons are private and designed to focus on the pace, abilities, goals, and learning style of the individual student. Lessons are 30, 45, or 60 minutes once a week. The learning environment in my studio is both supportive and challenging, allowing each student’s abilities to unfold with grace. Students learn how to practice and focus at home, at the lesson, and in performance. Emphasis is placed on listening, excellence, and musical expression rather than perfection.
