- UltrasoundUltrasound technology captures live images of internal body structures through the application of high-frequency sound waves. These images allow us to look at different muscles, tendons, and joints in the body. Instead of relying on touch and experience to determine optimal injection placement, ultrasound creates a live video image of the body’s tissues allowing guidance of the needle and administration of the medicine into a precise location.
- MRIMRI stands for Magnetic Resonance imaging. It is a diagnostic tool that uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to allow doctors to look at certain parts of the body more clearly than with other imaging equipment. An MRI procedure uses no harmful radiation, is completely non-invasive and painless with no known side-effects.
- X-Rays
- Computed Tomography3, CT scans can result in potentially harmful radiation exposure, and pre-surgical MRIs may increase overall costs or add time from consultation to procedure.

- SciaticaIt has now been 5 1/2 years since my surgery and I am happy to say that I have had no problems with my hip, and most importantly, I am pain free. I no longer walk with a limp and the sciatica pain that had been running down my leg is gone. My quality of life has significantly improved. I cannot express how thankful I am for Dr. Downer and his team.
- ArthroscopyArthroscopy is a surgical procedure that our orthopedic surgeons use to see, diagnose, and treat problems inside of a joint. OSS surgeons frequently perform shoulder, knee, hip, wrist, and ankle arthroscopy.
- Ankle Surgery“March 11, 2022 was the sixth anniversary of my successful ankle surgery so I thought I’d drop a quick note to say that all is well. The past year has been full of outdoor adventures, including trail running, mountaineering and skiing. Below is a picture of my group ascending a glacier on the west flank of Mt. Shuksan in the North Cascades last April. (I’m in the white helmet.)
- Joint ReplacementCartilage allows a joint to glide smoothly and acts as a cushion between bony structures. As we age, it’s susceptible to wear and tear, or it can be damaged from injury. Cartilage transplants can help reduce pain and increase function by restoring the joint’s healthy cartilage. The procedure may slow the progression of osteoarthritis and delay the need for more invasive procedures. This is particularly applicable in patients considered too young to undergo total joint replacement.
- Hand SurgeryAs far as I am concerned, all are part of a great team, and if needed, I would want all of them to care for my issues with hand surgery. And, of course, the knowledge and professionalism of Dr. Wayne Weil, my hand surgeon. I would definitely come to Dr. Weil with other hand surgery if I needed.

- ArthroscopyArthroscopy is an outpatient procedure and most patients are home within several hours of surgery. Because it’s minimally invasive, patients generally experience fewer problems and a more rapid recovery than with open surgery, making it a valuable diagnostic and treatment tool.
- Hip ReplacementI can’t begin to thank Dr. Downer enough for bringing his skills as a surgeon. At three months post hip surgery, I took off on a 6 month voyage where I’ve walked thousands of steps, climbed uncountable number of stairs covering lots of miles – none of which would be possible with my new hip. On his bio it states ‘hip preservation’ as one of the goals – well, we didn’t preserve my original hip BUT with my total hip replacement we did preserve my quality of life, tremendously. Thank you mille fois, Dr. Downer and team! Google Review

- Laparoscopic SurgeryOn August 30, 2021 Dr. Garcia performed Laparoscopic surgery on my left knee to repair the MRT, which only took around forty-five minutes. I was given a pain blocker to help eliminate pain coming out of surgery. Following the surgery and throughout my recovery time I never once had ANY pain. As Dr. Garcia originally explained, the most difficult part of the recovery is the non weight bearing for eight weeks, which required using a immobilizer brace and walker and hopping around the house or to physical therapy appointments. I followed the home PT instructions explicitly and I found that I was a one to two weeks ahead in meeting my goals. By the eighth week I began hiking again, on alternate days, first couple days with a brace and then no brace. I would say currently my knee feels about 90% back to normal, however it should be back to 100% by the one year anniversary of the surgery.
