- Pediatric CareWhile Dr. Anderson has cared for patients of all ages, he was one of the first physicians in the country to provide specialty level sports medicine care for the pediatric and adolescent age group. He has served as chair for the Committee on Sports Medicine and Fitness for the American Academy of Pediatrics which has worked largely to set safety standards for youth sports. He has been a leading author and principal editor for 2 editions of Care of the Young Athlete (a comprehensive textbook published jointly by the American Academy of Pediatrics [AAP] and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons [AAOS]). In 2022, Dr. Anderson received the Thomas Shaffer Award from the AAP for his lifetime contributions to the field.
- Primary CareDr. Anderson has been the Physician Director for the Board of Certification of the National Athletic Trainers Association; a member of the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee (SMAC) for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA); and a member of the American Board of Pediatrics where he helped establish the level of sports medicine knowledge pediatricians should possess before they become board certified in pediatrics. He is the founder of Seattle Pediatric Sports Medicine. This is a first of its kind organization that brings together sports medicine specialists with other medical professionals who care for young and active people—including general physicians, pediatricians, physical therapists, and athletic trainers. Dr. Anderson is also actively involved in teaching sports medicine and primary care orthopedics to medical students, residents, specialty fellows, and practicing physicians both locally, nationally, and internationally.

- UltrasoundThe procedure is most often performed on partial tears in the Achilles Tendon and rotator cuff tendon tears in the shoulder as well as osteoarthritis of knees and hips, often using ultrasound guidance. PRP is done under sterile conditions in the office and must be arranged ahead of time. Feel free to discuss this procedure with any of our physicians or therapists and we can help you decide if it would be effective for your condition.
- MRIMRI is a type of high tech scanner that uses magnetic fields to create “slices” of a picture of a part of your body. This diagnostic test will be used to evaluate and verify your specific injury. These scans may be done with or without dye. Arthrograms are MRI studies with dye. If dye is required, you will receive an injection by a Radiologist and then be taken to our MRI Suite for your scan. We employ our own technologists to ensure that you have the best possible scan, built to each physician’s specifications. There are some patients who may not qualify for scanning if they have certain conditions or metal in their bodies.
- RadiologyCurve Beam’s pedCAT is an ultra-low radiology dose CT imaging system. Patients benefit from the convenience of point-of-care advanced diagnostic imaging. The pedCAT provides physicians a 3D weight bearing view of your foot and ankle, and OPA is one of the few orthopedic practices in the Seattle area with this machine.

- Computed TomographyBecause no two knees are the same, MAKOplasty customizes the procedure for your unique anatomy. Before your surgery a computed tomography (CT) scan is taken of your knee, and the RIO® System creates a 3-D anatomical model. This allows the surgeon to plan the placement and alignment of your knee implants prior to surgery, and helps to accurately execute the plan.
- OrthopedicsThrough this innovative approach, OPA and the HURT App are leading the way in enhancing patient care and satisfaction in the field of orthopedics.

- Joint ReplacementI had hip replacement surgery with Dr. Matsen Ko for one hip and I felt fully active in 3 months. 6 months later I needed the same surgery for the other hip and now 3 months later I am fully active: able to walk 5 miles without pain and do stand up paddle boarding. The second surgery was more complex due to the need for hardware removal from an injury many years before. I am grateful for Dr. Matsen Ko’s judgment and skill. Her office staff also are responsive and called me back the same day when I had concerns post-op. I highly recommend Dr. Matsen Ko for anyone in need of joint replacement surgery.”

- Knee ReplacementWith OA the top layer of cartilage breaks down and wears away, allowing bones under the cartilage to rub together, causing pain and discomfort. The most common surgical intervention for knee OA is a total knee replacement. During this procedure the natural joint is removed and replaced with an artificial implant. This treatment option is usually offered to patients with late-stage osteoarthritis of the knee.
