- Dental ExaminationBiological dentistry, respects the intricate connection between the mouth and body, and is focused on helping patients achieve and maintain optimal oral health through comprehensive preventive care, biocompatible materials, and tooth-preserving treatments designed to restore function and wellness. How the biology and structures of the oral cavity promote or inhibit the full expression of health is given particular attention. An easy to understand example of this may be airway and oxygen saturation. To this end, at Whole Health Dentistry in Santa Barbara, CA, preventive services are at the foundation of our practice. Comprehensive dental exams, professional routine cleanings, and other treatments such as ozone therapy are designed to prevent not just cavities and oral health problems, but also to preserve your whole-body wellness.

- FillingsFillings are dental fillings made of bondable composites (and mixture of monomer acrylic type matrix and ultra fine glass like particles). Resin fillings require less tooth removal than other types of filling materials such as mercury amalgam and gold, and they bond to the tooth structure, reinforcing the tooth as much as possible. Resin fillings require more care and time to place than mercury amalgam fillings, and there is the uncommon occasion that the inside bonding may cause sensitivity requiring the filling to be replaced.
- Resin CompositeDr. Copeland uses biomimetic principles that focus on conserving your teeth while using restorations that mimic your natural tooth properties and structure while maintaining the vitality of the inner dental pulp. She does this by using biocompatible materials that replicate the essential features of your tooth’s natural enamel and dentin while removing as little of the tooth as possible using techniques such as CO2 laser, to remove only the infected or damaged tooth structure. The composite resin and other non-reactive materials Dr. Copeland uses are designed to maximize adhesion to your teeth for a strong bond, sealing out disease-causing bacteria, while also minimizing future pain and tooth sensitivity. In some cases, treatments such as ozone therapy and remineralization agents can help stop the decay process and help promote your body’s natural healing processes.
- VeneersVeneers: Cosmetic imperfections such as permanent stains, small gaps between teeth, misalignment, oddly sized or shaped teeth, and pitted or grooved enamel can all be addressed with veneers, which provide symmetry and beauty to your smile while only requiring a small amount of natural tooth structure to be removed. In some instances the”prepless” technique can be used with virtually no alteration to the existing tooth.
- CrownsIf you have ever had a crown, onlay, or other custom-made restoration placed, you are likely familiar with how lengthy the process can be – often requiring weeks of waiting while trying to protect your temporary crown. At Whole Health Dentistry, we know that this process can be stressful and time-consuming and are proud to offer same day CEREC dental crowns and other restorations for our Santa Barbara, CA area patients.
- Bridges
- Dental BondingPinhole gum rejuvenation is a minimally invasive procedure that allows us to restore receding gum tissues without cutting a graft from your mouth. This will improve the look of your smile and protect your teeth from infection. Cosmetic bonding can repair chipped or permanently yellowed teeth in a quick, cost-effective manner so your smile can brighten up your face without showing your age.

- Root Canal TreatmentOzone oxygen gas is a super microcidal. Unlike harsh chemical agents, which are specifically antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, or antiviral, ozone destroys all “bugs” of infection and gives off cell healing oxygen in the process. At Whole Health Dentistry, we use the disinfecting, cell healing properties of ozone in every aspect of client care. Ozone enhances all aspects of dentistry. It has the ability to prevent what would be a root canal or extraction in traditional dentistry. It is used to effectively and non-chemically disinfect root canals and dental infections. Ozone allows us to heal tissue naturally by both acting directly on microbes and stimulating the bodies natural healing cascades.

- DenturesDental implants are used for replacing missing teeth and stabilizing prostheses such as dentures. The “implant” itself is a specially milled titanium or pressed zirconium precision post which is placed into a prepared place of the jaw bone. The bone grows around the implant to mimic the root of the missing tooth. The implant can then be restored to look and function like a natural tooth by placing an abutment and crown. Implants are made from titanium or zirconium oxide, highly biocompatible materials.
- Dental ImplantsIf you are missing teeth or facing extractions, you are not alone. Millions of Americans face the reality of missing teeth whether due to disease, trauma, or decay. Fortunately, dental technology has advanced enough to allow us to restore missing teeth with greater functionality and more natural-looking esthetics than ever before. With dental implant restorations, we can replace missing teeth and give you back the ability to bite, eat, and speak with confidence.
- Oral Surgery
- Gum SurgeryLive from ABC 7 his is eye witness news. As we get older our gums tend to wear away and expose most of our teeth. This can make you more vulnerable to disease causing bacteria and gum surgery can be painful. Specialist Denise Denor is treating receding gums that is practically painless. Chances re if you have sensitive teeth you could be suffering from a reseeding gum line, this is usually the result of gum disease or aggressive brushing. 50 percent or people have some form of gum recession. A painful surgery with a long recovery used to be the only answer. Now a local dentist is trying to ease the patients and millions of others – no surgery no sutures all smiles. That was what Dr. Chow wanted for his patients. I just don’t see why dentistry has to have a procedure that hurts so much. Conventional gum grafting is painful. Dentists cut and remove tissue from the roof of the mouth and then graft it onto the receding gum. Now Dr. Chow has developed a new and almost painless procedure called pinhole surgical technique. There is recession of the gums going up this way. Maria Viscera is getting the procedure today. There is some sensitivity! Dr. Chow doesn’t cut but uses a small needle to make a small hole in the diseased area – a specially designed small area to freeze the tissues from the bone, when the gums are moved and bound to a healthy position, Dr. Chow then places collagen strips under the gums to keep the tissue in place. We will loosen up the gum and let it down to where it is supposed oth be and enforce it with some collagen. The pinhole surgery can correct 10 to 14 teeth at once. It takes about 20 mins for up to 3 teeth and recovery is less than a day. Traditional surgery requires 2 incisions and only correct 1 2 teeth at a time, takes almost 2 hours and there is a 3 week recovery. Joy was one of the first to have it done 3 years ago. This was Sandy before the pin hole procedure and the day after. It was a miracle – and absolutely miracle. Dr Chow says he has not seen any higher risk with the pin hole technique than with the tradition method the cost is comparable to traditional methods that can range from 500 dollars to 1800 dollars. Right now Dr. Chow is the only dentist who is doing this procedure but he is beginning to train dentists around the world. Denise Denor eye witness 7 ABC

- OrthodonticsTMJ treatment depends on the root cause of the issue. Tongue and mouth exercises that improve your oral posture and develop your facial muscles can improve your symptoms, or you may need orthodontics to allow your teeth to rest together optimally. Mindfulness and relaxation techniques can also help you relax your face throughout the day and reduce your overall stress. You may find relief for your symptoms with a custom-fitted oral nightguard that can provide cushion for your teeth and jaw if you clench and grind at night. Dr. Copeland can also guide your diet to ensure you are getting the proper nutrition to support your oral health.
- BracesRemineralization – Replacing ions removed by a highly acidic environment thereby healing the surface of the tooth of the unhealthy patient. This can occur naturally as with a change in the body chemistry through diet and/or with the help of remineralization agents such as MI paste. Can be used in place of fillings in shallow “cavities” if used along with disinfection(ozone), to reduce sensitivity of exposed root surfaces and prevention therapy during periods of susceptibility(orthodontic braces, illness, pregnancy, high stress, non-brushing children and elderly adults)
