  In addition to his clinical practice at Gateway Clinic, Dr. Harden is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Biobehavioral Health at the University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth Campus.  His research interests include clinical simulation.  Dr. Harden also teaches Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Medical Genetics, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics to students preparing for the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Exam).  He has given lectures all over the world, including Debrecen, Hungary, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, St. George’s University, Grenada and Toronto, Canada. He has also been a guest lecturer with Montana State University WWAMI program, and he has delivered CME lectures on the Ethics of Genetic Testing.  He has been a panelist and host with the PBS television program “Docs On Call.”

  As family physicians, Dr. Christensen and Dr. Peterson provided a wide range of primary care medical services to residents of the community. Through the years, the demand for medical services continued to grow. Based upon this, additional primary care physicians were recruited to meet the health care needs of the region. The group added a number of physicians in the 1980s, during the 1990s, and more recently the past few years.

  Walk-in CARE services are covered services by your insurance and are billed as a clinic office visit. Most often it is less expensive with a lower co-pay or coinsurance than services at an urgent care or emergency room. Walk-in CARE services are also eligible for discounted same-day pay through our ValueCARE program.

  We only administer the COVID vaccine at our Moose Lake clinic location. There is no charge for the vaccine, but your health insurance information is needed to bill for the administration of the vaccine, but you will have no out-of-pocket costs.   I have had the privilege to work with patients from a variety of backgrounds.  From newborn babies to NHL hockey players, to professional gamers I have seen it all!  It makes my job fun and I truly enjoy getting to meet and learn more about each of my patients.  When you come and see me in the office, I will be using the “whole-person” approach when caring for my patients. I feel a special connection to treating headache suffers and shoulder pain, carpal tunnel, and sinus pain since that is why I got into chiropractic in the first place. I use the very best hands-on-techniques, state of the art physiotherapy procedures, and provide highly qualified healthcare advice.  I have spent over 12 years in training to be one of only a few Elite Providers for Active Release Techniques (ART) in the world, with advanced knowledge in treating soft-tissue injuries.  For nearly 10 years I had the honor of be able to help the production lines and staff at SC Johnson’s main manufacturing headquarters.  I was able to help them reduce work-related injuries and pilot programs at two other manufacturing facilities.  It gives me great joy to help improve the lives of people who are what I like to call “occupational athletes” because they have to be at their peak performance for 25-30 years on the job. As I always say, it’s easier to grow healthy kids and fix injured adults!  The reason I got certified in ART was that I was training for the Chicago Marathon and had terrible shin splints and a doctor at school treated me and they were gone immediately.  I couldn’t believe it and knew I needed to do this so I could help more people. Having four children myself, I know the importance of proper biomechanics of the pelvis during pregnancy and delivery and am certified with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) with Webster’s Technique.

  The recruitment and development of new physicians practices required additional space and a larger facility. In response to the need, Gateway did extensive remodeling and built an addition to the Moose Lake facility in 1991. As the clinic and its services continued to grow, it was apparent that a new facility would be needed to allow expansion of clinical services. In 2004, a new 20,000 square clinic was opened in Moose Lake. The new facility allows the clinic to offer more comprehensive and expansive medical services to the residents in the region. The Moose Lake facility provides a broad range of primary and specialty care services, as well as diagnostic services such as laboratory, radiology, ultrasound, and cardiovascular diagnostics.

  In the mid 1990s, it became apparent that the Clinic needed to expand in order to meet the health care needs of the residents in Carlton and Pine Counties. Additional physicians were recruited to meet the need. On December 1, 1997, Gateway opened a new medical facility in Sandstone. The Clinic allowed for increased access of medical services through expansion of the physician base in the community. The Sandstone facility provides a broad range of primary care and specialty medical services, including laboratory and radiology services.
