General Info
STAR of CA provides a range of services for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and related disorders, children at risk for developmental delays, and children with behavioral challenges. Our multi-disciplinary approach makes use of evidence-based practices to develop an individualized program for your child and family. Children's Behavioral Services For children who are showing significant delays across multiple areas of development, we offer more intensive individualized intervention programs. Whether these delays are in communication, socialization, or self-care skills, STAR of CA works closely with your child and family to resolve them. Using direct intervention and parent education services, we can help close gaps in your child's development and maximize their potential for independence. Positive Behavior Support When your child's behavior is disruptive to daily routines across home, school, and/or community settings, positive behavior support can be extremely helpful. Our behavioral intervention program focuses on resolving challenging behaviors of all kinds. The process begins with a clear understanding of the reason for the behavior, and what your child gains from engaging in it. We then emphasize eliminating these challenging behaviors and teaching your child more appropriate ways of getting their needs met. Family Support Services Parents and family members of children with special needs often experience a range of emotions that can undermine the family's well-being. This may include feelings of grief and loss, stress and frustration, being overwhelmed, guilt, and loneliness. Families need a place to turn when they experience feelings and concerns like these. Our Family Support Services help families cope with the challenges associated with raising a child with special needs, while building their capacity for intervention, advocacy and knowledge. Families are encouraged to learn more about the individual, couples, and family counseling services, in addition to the parent and sibling support groups. STAR of California also provides psychological testing and diagnostic evaluations to assist families with understanding the unique needs of their child and to inform the treatment planning process. School Based Services See ERA Education, on our website for the Support and Treatment for Autism & Related Disorders (STAR), Inc. educational services division. Parent Education Classes in ABA Parent education is a vital component of all STAR of CA programs. In partnership with CAUSE, these classes are provided to give groups of families a working knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis and the skills necessary to effectively serve as an interventionist and advocate for their child. Participants also benefit greatly from the support of our staff as well as the other families in the program. Developmental Services The California Department of Developmental Services is the agency through which the State of California provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities. These disabilities include intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and related conditions. Services are provided through state-operated developmental centers and community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers. The regional centers serve as a local resource to help find and access the services and supports available to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Specialized Services STAR of CA also offers occupational therapy services through direct intervention or consultation support for children who demonstrate motor and sensory needs. These services represent an important part of our multidisciplinary team. Mental Health Services
