- This approach works towards helping people increase their emotional and cognitive regulationBy learning about the triggers that lead to reactive states and helping to assess which coping skills to apply in the sequence of events, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to help avoid undesired reactions. DBT assumes that people are doing the best they can but are either lacking the skills or influenced by positive or negative reinforcement that interfere with their ability to function appropriately.
- Mental illnesses, including addictionsAre often tied to changes in brain chemistry. Cells don't produce enough of specific key substances tied to motivation and reward, or portions of the brain that should be active are suddenly inactive. That's why medications are often part of the treatment program for mental illness.
- By using these tools, treatment teams hope to alter faulty chemistry and broken connectionsSo the brain can work at an optimal level. But sometimes, just changing the way a person thinks can transform the way the mind works. That's the foundation for dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). This innovative therapy aims to help people examine their thoughts, opinions, and reactions. Therapists also help their clients to transform the way they respond to those inner signals. Sometimes, this therapy delivers changes that medications just can't touch, and it all starts with the power of the conscious mind.
- How DBT WorksDBT uses a two- pronged approach. The first component involves one-on-one psychotherapy sessions, run by someone with in- depth training in DBT principles. In the early part of the therapy process, the therapist is simply attempting to form a connection with the patient. The two talk, share, and connect. They come to trust one another, and that allows the patient to feel both accepted and validated. With those feelings in place, people often feel much more ready to work on healing. They have the strength to do so. The second component involves group therapy sessions, in which people learn skills involving: Regulating emotions, Interpersonal communication and connection, Mindfulness, Tolerance of distress, and Acceptance of reality.
- We understand that not all individuals want the traditional twelve step approach to recovery and with that in mind we offer a holistic approach to recovery and offer support through a variety of therapeutic modalities.
- Holistic treatment programs focus on the entire personBody, mind and soul. Meditation, yoga, and tai chi all.
- Have One Common GoalTo put the body and mind into a state of relaxation and inner peace.
- Holistic treatment programs are a healthy and effective option if you want to try natural ways to overcome your addiction. When offering holistic treatment for drug and alcohol abuse, one of the areas to be covered is that of the mind.
- Clients who come to Lyric Recovery Outpatient ProgramsAre usually not used to spending a lot of time being mindful of their present circumstances and their emotional state. They have gotten used to trying to distance themselves from it through their drug and alcohol use and they need help learning how to be in the moment, dealing with their thoughts. Learning how to meditate allows clients to slow down and be aware of their present state. Mindfulness refers to being present without judgment. Regular meditation sessions help to reduce stress and anxiety, which often act as triggers for substance abuse.
- You will meet with our therapist weekly for individual sessions as well as family sessions through out your admission to our program. In individual therapy, a client works with a mental health professional in private sessions to acquire self-knowledge, insight into addiction, and a stronger sense of inner strength. Sessions can be held on a one-to-one basis.
- Individual therapy sessions are structured according to the patient's needs.Patients who need inspiration and encouragement may be guided through a series of questions to help them discover their own personal motivation to get sober.
- A therapy session can touch on many topics, but most therapists will focus on the subjects that are currently preoccupying the client, such asTheir progress in rehab, Personal obstacles to recovery, Interactions with others both inside and outside the facility, Cravings or withdrawal symptoms, Experiences with new coping skills, Their goals for the immediate future.
- A therapy session will often end with the client and therapist working together to set goals for the days ahead. These goals might include staying sober for a certain number of days, attending a specific number of meetings, or trying a new recovery activity. In some recovery programs, therapists use a therapeutic approach called contingency management to motivate their clients. In exchange for achieving a certain number of sober days or reaching another personal goal, clients may receive tokens or other tangible rewards.
- In the contemporary view of substance abuse treatment, therapy is a collaborative process. The therapist does not condemn, judge, or criticize the patient, or tell him or her what to do. Instead, the therapist and client work together to move the client forward through the stages of recovery. The therapeutic philosophy of motivational interviewing is very different from older therapeutic approaches, which were much more aggressive and confrontational. Today, individual therapy sessions focus on helping the client build self-esteem and increase the desire to recover.
- Group therapy gives recovering addicts the opportunity to learn new coping techniquesPractice their communication skills, and gain hope and strength from their peers. For many addicts, their interpersonal relations have been reduced to interactions with dealers and other drug users.
- In group therapyThey can meet men and women like themselves who are facing the same struggles with substance abuse. Many profound friendships are formed in group therapy, where addicts learn how to develop trusting, sober relationships with others.
- Group therapy sessionsMay involve the client's significant others. In family therapy, spouses, partners, parents, or children join the counseling session. Significant others may be invited to private family sessions, or to open sessions or classes involving a group of peers.
- In group therapy, clients get together in a session led by a trained mental health professional.Sessions typically last approximately one hour, and clients are asked to observe time limits when speaking so that everyone who wants to talk may have the opportunity. In a residential treatment program, group sessions are typically held three or more days per week.
- Topics vary depending on the format of the meeting, but common subjects includeEducation on addiction; Managing stressful situations; Managing anger, shame, loneliness, and other difficult emotions; Coping with substance abuse triggers; Coping with cravings and withdrawal symptoms; Living with grief and emotional trauma; Handling a relapse if it does occur; Forming and maintaining healthy relationships; Understanding codependency; Managing medications.
- Dealing with mental illness (depression, anxiety, social phobias, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric disorders)Group therapy provides a safe, supportive environment where clients can discuss painful memories and emotions, celebrate their successes, and share their failures in recovery. These sessions reinforce one of the most important messages of rehab: that no matter what the outcome of treatment may be, the client is not alone in his or her experiences with addiction.
- In Family Systems TherapyAddiction is addressed as an issue involving the entire group, not just the individual admitted to treatment. Each person in the home - and many relatives or friends outside the household - participates somehow in the cycle of addiction. As a result, the family must be assessed, evaluated, and treated as a unit. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
- Family therapy in addiction treatment has several key goalsTo identify the strengths and positive qualities of the family unit; To find ways to use those strengths to create a sober living environment; To determine how substance abuse has affected the family; To help the family recover from the damage caused by addiction; To connect the family with resources (psychosocial, medical, financial, occupational, or educational) that they can use to improve their quality of life.
- Family members are often unaware of the ways they participate in the drama of addictionOr of the full extent of the damage caused by substance abuse. Through educational classes, workshops, and group counseling sessions, the addict's family members can develop a deeper understanding of this devastating disease. If any other members of the household are struggling with substance abuse, family therapy gives them the opportunity to reach out for help in a safe, confidential environment.
- We offer a traditional twelve step approach to recovery and have a recovery option that is supportive of the twelve steps. For some this is the approach that works for their recovery needs.
- 12 Step Programs12 step programs are a common form of outpatient therapy that fall under the category of self-help. These programs are entirely voluntary, and use a group therapy environment to help individuals work through personal struggles with addiction. There are 12 step programs for almost every form of addition. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) are two of the most common 12 step programs.
- The level of intensityRecommended for an outpatient program often depends on your clinical history and current struggle with addiction. While an outpatient therapy program may be mandated in certain situations, participation in self-help programs is almost always voluntary.
- We are excited that we are able to incorporated Art Therapy into our Outpatient program. This is a relaxing and fun way to discover recovery tools and skills as well as identify patterns in your addiction.
- Art therapy allows clientsTo express feelings or thoughts in a non-threatening way. Conversations about a created piece of artwork allow a client the right amount of distance from the problem to discuss the creation while simultaneously discussing the internal problem.
- Art therapy fosters self-expressionCopying skills, and aids in managing stress and strengthening a sense of self. It is often used successfully with individuals who have suffered from trauma, grief, loss, depression and substance abuse.
- The benefit of art therapy is two fold.First is the creative process. The act of creating something is life affirming. It is known to be authentic and spontaneous and this leads to personal growth. The second benefit resides in the image(s) created. These images may be symbols that help clients and therapist discuss internal conflicts, solve problems and form new perceptions of self.
- Lifescape Solutions understands that everyone is unique. We provide a variety of therapies that enable clients to get to their core issues, move through them safely and resolve them.
- Our Relapse Prevention Program is a twelve week course that meets once a week for one hour and is facilitated by a Certified Relapse Prevention Specialist.
- What Is Relapse Prevention?Changing behavior and thought patterns takes time, practice, replacement skills, and support. When an addict stops using drugs and alcohol, he or she must participate in a complete life style change.
- Clients are vulnerable to relapse in early recovery because everything may feel overwhelmingNew skills learned in treatment need time to become strong. Coping with the stress of everyday living can be a challenge and so treatment programs offer Relapse Prevention education. Relapse is almost always related to a lack of stress management and isolation for those in recovery.
- Lifescape Solutions offersA variety of methods to promote relapse prevention. A relapse does not happen in a vacuum. Warning signs occur before the relapse. Picking up a drink or drug after abstinence is the last step in the process.
- The progressionSomething triggers a memory or a feeling; Cravings to use begin; Avoidance of healthy actions begins; Cravings increase; Ignoring the new plan to handle triggers and cravings intensifies; Old behaviors are used; Cravings increase; Asking for help is avoided; Lack of positive action continues; Relapse is culminated in picking up a drink or a drug.
- Real life events, serious events, can spur a relapse. It is important for a recovering addict to understand the need for a supportive recovering network. A strong relapse prevention program provides the client with the tools and skills to handle triggers and provides clients with alternative activities that can diminish or stop cravings. The ability to reach out for help during these times must be seen as the only option. At any place along the process, the addict can stop the downward spiral back into addiction. Lifescape Solutions gives clients a strong set of physical and emotional experiences that are positive. We offer a range of therapies that reduce stress and help clients manage difficult feelings and negotiate negative impulses.
- Our organization is structured toTo keep clients connected through on going therapy, Sober Coaches and weekly Alumni activities.

- Addiction recovery isn't something done alone, at least not successfully. This is a true case of "it takes a village," with the person struggling with the addiction, combined with family, friends, and The Recovery Village team, to make recovery a reality. Even when substance abuse isn't present within a family, each family is so different that it can't be treated in same way. Add addiction to the mix, and it becomes much, much more complicated. Family roles in addiction can be complex, and our family support team is here to help.
- Understanding the Addiction History of a FamilyAt The Recovery Village we take the time to understand your family, how each person has been impacted by addiction, for how long, and what damage to relationships has occurred. Family support is for adults as well as children. Young children may never have known life without addiction in the family, and need particular help in recreating a new relationship with the parent in recovery. This is part of why it is important to define family roles in substance abuse.
- Understanding the Family Roles in AddictionEach family member has a particular role within a family dealing with substance abuse. Sometimes these roles can feel helpful or necessary, when in fact they are actually supporting the addictive behavior of a loved one, and causing stress or other problems for themselves in the process. This is called codependency, a dysfunctional way of relating to others.
- Codependency is an important thing to identifyIn order for positive family roles in addiction to be effective. Codependency is more common than most people are aware. The Recovery Village has extensive experience in identifying and treating codependency issues.
- The Vital Role Families Play in the Addiction Recovery Process Can't Be Overstated. One thing to remember is that coalescing to an addict's desires may make things easier in the short term, but not the long term. Be conscious of what enablement is and strive to not enable addictive behavior.
- It Is Important to RememberHow very important family members are to the recovery process. We'll help you understand what you can do to take an active and positive role during and after treatment. Family roles in addiction can be one of the strongest supports of recovery, when actions and interactions are healthy and positive.
