FARIMA BERENJI is an award winning. Internationally acclaimed performing artist. Instructor. Dance ethnologist. And ARCHEOLOGIST. FARIMA is currently the artistic director of the FARIMA dance Company (dance. Music. Poetry. And cultural education program) based in the SAN francisco BAY area. AS well AS the artistic director of the silk road collective dance Company in anchorage. AK and tampa. FL. FARIMA was an ensemble member and student of the AVAZ dance Company (directed by DR. Anthony shay) from 1996 1999. Instructor and principal performer of the PAYVAND dance Company from 1995 2003. AS well AS the principal performer of ballet AFSANEH and director of the south BAY AFSANEH dance academy from 2006-2012. FARIMA was exposed to various music and dance styles through HER family and community including persian (iranian). Central asian. Middle eastern. And ballet. HER love of dance has LED HER on an extraordinary life long journey throughout the world. Including HER home countries iran and Azerbaijan AS well AS other neighboring silk road countries such AS armenia. Kurdistan. And turkey. Where SHE has studied and performed with master teachers and performing artists. FARIMA is strongly connected to spirituality and healing and has studied with great spiritual and sufi masters of iran. Kurdistan. And turkey. AS a sufi. FARIMA'S dances are greatly influenced by HER ancient zoroastrian roots. Sufism. And spirituality; therefore. HER dances are full of emotions. Strength. Grace. And passion. For almost 19 years. FARIMA has continued HER passion of dance and spirituality and has traveled great distances to learn. Research. Lecture. Promote. Perform. And to teach sacred. Classical. And folk dances of the silk road, a sought after performer. Teacher. And lecturer. FARIMA has taught both nationally and internationally and has performed and choreographed solo works AS well AS numerous group pieces AS a guest choreographer for several dance companies including ballet AFSANEH. DANCEVERSITY. PAYVAND dance Company. And various dance companies based in iran and turkey. SHE has also performed for highly acclaimed internationally renowned venues including: the united NATIONS/UNESCO. The SAN jose egyptian museum. The SAN jose museum of ART. The iranian national museum. And various national and international educational institutions. Festivals. And organizations. With ballet AFSANEH. FARIMA has performed AT SAN FRANCISCO'S ethnic dance festival. Disney music hall. SAN francisco city hall. SAN FRANCISCO'S DE young museum. The asian ART museum. And the discovery museum. FARIMA'S scholarly background includes IN-DEPTH studies of dance. Music. Poetry. ART. History. AS well AS mythology. And spiritual traditions of iran and central asia. SHE has appeared AS a scholar in distinguished national and international documentaries and has been highlighted in various interviews. Based on HER intensive archaeological excavation and dance anthropology research. FARIMA has developed HER OWN dance style and theory on expression and body movement. Which CAN BE defined AS persian improvisational experimental dance. FARIMA continues HER research and HER education in preservation of persian dance and culture and hopes to share HER love of the arts with everyone SHE meets.
