Laura Godat, MD, is board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. She cares for patients who have experienced traumatic injuries, such as motor vehicle collisions or falls. She also treats patients with acute surgical needs, such as the emergency removal of the appendix or gallbladder, or those coping with surgical complications.An academic surgeon, Dr. Godats research is focused on clinical outcomes in trauma and general surgery patients. She serves on several UC San Diego Health committees including the Trauma Multidisciplinary Committee and the Quality Improvement Committee for the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.Dr. Godat is an associate fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She is also certified as an instructor in Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Trauma Operative Management and Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma. She earned her medical degree from Wake Forest University and completed her residency in general surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Dr. Godat completed her fellowship training in trauma and surgical critical care at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
