This is a great Japanese restaurant with GREAT bento boxes and average sushi. Great price point and very good service. Sushi is good, but not worth going there just for sushi.

Akagi has been a favourite of mine for over 15 years. I've eaten Japanese food in over 30 restuarants in San Francisco, including Japantown and other parts of the world, including Japan itself, and I count Akagi as being in the top 3! If you like Teriyaki, Akagi is the place for you, they've a homemade tangy Teriyaki sauce which I believe has a cult following. No one else has the taste of Teriyaki as Akagi does! Most places, their Teriyaki is either too sweet or bland, not Akagi! Great Tempura, always fluffy and crisp, simple yet great tasting salads with wonderfully Japanese salad dressings. Very reasonable pricing, you can have a two combo lunch box for only $ 6.95. Service is quite good, always with a smile and courtesy. The only complaint I have about Akagi, are its hour of operation, only open for lunch from 11am to 2pm and for dinner starting at 5:30pm.
