Kay Martinez was born in Houston, Texas. After graduating from Bellaire High School, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Austin College in Sherman, Texas, her Master of Arts from Southern Methodist University, and did further graduate work at New York University. She attended law school and earned her Juris Doctorate from St. Mary's School of Law in San Antonio, Texas, where she was a Senior Associate Editor for the Law Journal. Ms. Martinez has raised three children and is a proud grandparent. One of her grandchildren is a Special Needs Child. She brings life experience as well as professional experience to many of the issues faced by her clients.That is why the motto of her office is: "Help with your past; hope for your future." Kay Martinez has been practicing law in Bexar and surrounding counties since 1977. She has tried numerous jury and non-jury cases. She has won custody of children for both fathers and mothers, as well as for grandparents and other relatives. She has brought numerous cases to a successful conclusion utilizing mediation. Ms. Martinez believes that, if it can be done to the satisfaction of her client, cases should be settled without trial. Kay Martinez has been Board Certified in Family Law, by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar of Texas since 1982. Her practice is devoted entirely to Family Law. Ms. Martinez is a member and past President of the San Antonio Family Lawyers Association. She is also a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists. Kay Martinez volunteers with the Community Justice Program, donating her experience to family law cases for those without means to retain a private attorney. Ms. Martinez offers a free 30 minute consultation during which she will evaluate your case, explain how she can help you, and discuss her fees. Retainers are set on a case by case basis. Depending on the type of case, Ms. Martinez and her office charge an hourly or flat fee rate. The office does accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit cards.
