Founded in 1917, New York State Police is a full-service police agency that provides a range of law enforcement services. It serves the citizens of New York and offers training solutions for men and women. The agency provides instruction in the areas of criminal investigation, forensic science and other topical issues to the members of other police departments and outside agencies. New York State Police s counter terrorism office detects, deters and prevents future terrorist attacks. It also provides traffic management, crime prevention and criminal investigation services. The agency operates canine, bomb disposal, aviation and motorcycle units. New York State Police additionally operates the Pistol Permit Bureau.
