I'm writing this based on my experiences as a former full-time employee for more than 5 years. Consider this: you take a loan for $100 against "grandmas wedding ring", knowing it's worth considerably more and has priceless sentimental value. You come back in a month to pay off and pick it up, but they can't seem to find it. They tell you to be patient and they will call you in a day or two. Three days later you go back and it's still missing. The manager then tells you she will talk with the General Manager and get back to you. The GM, who is also a co-owner and former president of the Oregon Pawnbrokers Association, is highly skilled at minimizing the damages caused by inept store management. The store manager finally offers you a "settlement" for the amount of the loan only. You may not have realized it , but on the back of the contract you signed, it says in small print that they are liable for "only up to the amount of the loan". You have 2 choices: hire a lawyer and try to fight their vicious legal team which you probably cannot afford to do, or accept their $100 offer. You reluctantly accept the offer. Now comes the ultimate insult: after you are handed the refund, the store manager then says that you are locked out in their system and they will never do business with you again. Like it was all your fault! This really does happen. Remember, you are playing their game and they are the home team. Please consider carefully before choosing to do business with "Oregon's most trusted pawn shop"!!!
