Salem Elementary School, located in Salem, N.Y., serves more than 300 students in kindergarten through grade six. It has various academic departments, such as science, social studies and mathematics. The school additionally conducts art, instrumental and vocal music, physical education and computer science classes. Salem Elementary School offers literature-based reading instruction and reading recovery programs. Its Responsive Classroom program helps in the development of self-discipline, community spirit and respect for differences in others. The school supports chorus, drama and band clubs. Salem Elementary School has a student council that plans community service projects, such as stocking the local food pantry and fundraising for Operation Santa, as well as social events and nights for school spirit activities.
