Salem Central School District, founded in 1780, provides educational opportunities to students from grades kindergarten through 12. The district has an enrollment of more than 900 students. Its K-6 structure offers multiage and traditional classes, and a departmentalized approach in sixth grade. It also offers programs in Latin and reading recovery. The district has full-time professional personnel in the areas of art, music, physical education and library science. It provides advanced placement English, history and calculus to students in their junior and senior years, as well as a science research course. It also provides special education classes to students with special needs. The district has athletic teams for various sports, including football, soccer, field hockey, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, and track and field.
