Obedience/Agility TrainingObedience Classes Offered:Puppy Manners: For dogs under the age of 6 months. Designed to help new parents learn how to handle everyday situations with their new puppy. Emphasis is placed on social skills, confidence building and teaching the puppies to accept the parent as the pack leader. Basic control commands are taught including sit, stand, down, come when called and controlled walking are introduced. Other subjects covered include (but not limted to): Crate training, housetraining, jumping, nipping, chewing, basic care and developing good behaviors. Positive reinforcement is the ONLY training method used. Limited enrollment ensures personalized, individual attention for each pup and parent. Homework assignments are given for each class. 4 classes meeting once a week forone hour.Basic Obedience: This class is for dogs 7 months of age or older. Emphasis is placed on the basic control commands, sit, stay, down stay, stand, come when called and heelwork. Behavioral problems common to most dogs such as lunging at other dogs and jumping up on people are addressed through specific exercises. Homework assignments are given for each class. 6 classes meeting once a week for one hour.Agility Classes:Agility FUNdamentals: Puppies, children, adult dogs, and grown-ups new to agility are all welcome in the Agility FUNdamentals class. This class will introduce you and your puppy or dog to the sport of agility. Agility obstacles are introduced in a safe and fun manner, in addition to safe use of the equipment. We will also cover beginning jumping and basic handling skills, attention, motivation and control. All training is don on-leash. Classes are held in 4-week sessions for one hour each session.Private Lessons are offered for both Obedience and Agility for more individualized training. Meet the Trainer - Jeanne StephensI began training my first Sheltie "Angel" for obedience in 1986. Angel earned her AKC Utility Dog Tiltle which is one of the highest obedience titles a dog can earn.In 1989 I became an obedience instructor for Deep South All Breed Obedience Training Club and served as President, Vice President, Board Member, Training Director, Newsletter Editor and Trial Secretary.In 1992 I became a licensed AKC Obedience Judge and continue to judge obedience trials across the country. I am also a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluator for the American Kennel Club. I regularly attend obedience and agility seminars and workshops and have presented a seminar for obedience exhibitors called "Obedience from a Judge's Point of View.Since beginning my obedience career I have earned more than 50 AKC Obedience, Agility, Rally and Herding titles on my shelties.I am presently President of the Shetland Sheepdog Club of Greater New Orleans, member of Deep South All breed OTC and founding member of the Swamp Dog Agility Club of Greater New Orleans.
