Vianney is Vibrant But Not Progressive

St. John Vianney boasted of its "family" atmosphere. It was indeed family-like, though of a less than optimal kind--friendly on the surface and pretty dysfunctional at its core. My son earned a Marianist scholarship upon admittance in freshman year; I, his mother, was given part-time employment in a professional capacity to help boost publicity. While I boosted publicity wildly (with all the faculty/staff happy with my work) and my son won Order of the Griffin status in 2007/08, at the end of the year, administration forced me out of a job. They changed the job description midstream, adding a master's degree preference on a job that didn't require one just to put me in my place. That was after a bevy of mixed messages, aimed at increasing frustration, since I challenged the "good old boy's system" of management. The school has some great teachers and staff but at the heart is quite old-fashioned in its treatment of women. Not good role modeling for boys needing to work with and under women in their future careers.
