The company was founded in 1981 as Au Bon Pain Co., and changed its name to Panera Bread Company in 1998. The company publishes a seasonal online newsletter, Breadwise, that covers stories, news, updates and recipes. It also publishes a monthly e-newsletter to registered customers that provides information on seasonal menu offerings, recipes that can be tried at home, Artisan breads, and new services at Panera.
