Midland Empire Resources for Independent Living, also known as MERIL, is a community-based, nonresidential agency that works to promote independent living and enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. It serves the residents of Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Clinton, Holt, Nodaway, DeKalb, Gentry and Worth counties in Missouri. Midland Empire Resources for Independent Living also provides services for deaf and hearing impaired individuals, as well as traumatic brain injury survivors. Its independent living services include self-advocacy training, peer support, community education, and housing and personal assistance. The agency also offers in-home services related to personal care, homemaker chore, respite, authorized nurse visits and counseling. Midland Empire Resources for Independent Living maintains a location in St. Joseph, Mo.
