- Root Canal TreatmentThe endodontist is an expert regarding the tooth pulp, tooth root, and associated structures and diseases. Their primary procedure is root canal therapy (RCT). Although general dentists are trained to diagnose and treat mostly “straightforward” root canal problems, the endodontist in Rocklin, [name] treats the more complex and difficult cases. Their additional years of education and residency training provide endodontists with specialized skills to diagnose and treat complex cases that general dentists aren’t experienced enough or comfortable enough to treat. These may include teeth with particularly narrow root canals, calcified/obstructed root canals, additional branching of root canal anatomy, and teeth with extremely “curved” roots. An added benefit of seeing an endodontist is the state-of-the-art specialized technology employed in their offices. Most endodontists use high-resolution microscopes to assist them in seeing way beyond the naked eye.
- Deep CleaningThe first step in periodontal therapy begins with an examination and baseline probing measurements of the gingival attachment around the teeth. Actual treatment begins with a thorough cleaning usually involving scaling and root planning and can be performed at Placer Prosthodontics Inc.. Oral hygiene instruction is a critical part of this process where the patient is shown proper brushing and flossing techniques. Initial treatment is basically aimed at removal of plaque and calculus from the teeth and can be performed using either hand instruments and/or ultrasonic scalers. Approximately one month following the cleaning, the patient is seen for a response diagnosis. At that time, new probing measurements are made and compared to the original baseline probing measurements. Areas resistant to the initial deep cleaning (identified by continued deep pocketing) are usually treated with more invasive treatment methods (i.e., surgery). The goal of periodontal therapy is to treat disease (eliminate inflammation and infection) and create a tooth/gum interface that is predictably maintainable by the patient. A stable foundation is defined as disease-free supporting structures which are maintainable by regular brushing and flossing. In addition to performing the basic periodontal therapies, periodontists are also experts in placing dental implants. Their knowledge and training in meticulous management of both the gingival soft tissues and jaw bone make them the perfect choice for surgical placement of implants.

- Oral SurgeryMost general dentists provide anesthesia using local anesthetic (i.e., injection of Lidocaine 2 percent (with epinephrine) or Carbocaine 3 percent (without epinephrine)) and occasionally prescribe an oral tablet for oral sedation for dental phobic patients. The role of the dental anesthesiologist in Rocklin, California, is to administer more advanced anesthesia through the use of pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic techniques including IV sedation and general anesthesia. Most dental anesthesiologists provide their services to other dentists requiring advanced anesthesia and sedation for their patients or medical monitoring for special needs patients. Some may work from a single office where advanced anesthesia is frequently required, like in an oral surgery practice, while others rotate around the community through multiple dental offices including both general dentists and dental specialists. In such cases, this specialist can be thought of as a “traveling” dental anesthesiologist.
- Tooth ExtractionsThe prosthodontist is an expert in restorative dentistry. Although general dentists can perform restorative dentistry, prosthodontists also perform root canals, cleanings, simple tooth extractions, bleaching, and other related cosmetic procedures, in Rocklin, California. Additional years of residency training provide prosthodontists with the opportunity to learn critical dental concepts and not just memorize techniques. Cause-and-effect-based problem solving is a fundamental part of the postgraduate training in prosthodontics. The primary goal of a prosthodontist is to control both force and inflammation. This sounds much simpler than it actually is and demands a comprehensive understanding and appreciation for the jaw joints, teeth, gingiva (gums), bone, muscles, ligaments, dental materials and, most importantly, the patient as a unique individual.

- BracesChildren with untreated crowded, malaligned or missing teeth grow up to be adults with the same problems. Orthodontic therapy isn’t exclusively for children and teenagers. It can provide the same benefits for adults as it does for kids and make you look younger in the process – they say braces will take 10 years off your age and give you a more youthful appearance!
- Teeth WhiteningIn addition to RCT, other endodontic procedures include stabilizing tooth fractures, draining infections in and around tooth roots, internal bleaching and surgical procedures known as apicoectomies. Bar far the most common endodontic procedure is root canal therapy, which is often referred to as “a root canal.” When tooth decay has reached close to or directly into the dental pulp (nerve) of a tooth, inflammation and infection result, usually causing extreme pain. The anatomy of a tooth has a lot to do with this response. Because a tooth is a “solid” container without the ability to expand to accommodate swelling, pressure is contained within. Without a vent or outlet to relieve the pressure, the nerve is constricted and may eventually die.
