The South Carolina Department of Social Services is governed by the State of South Carolina. It supports various governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations, universities and colleges. The South Carolina Department of Social Services administers the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which specializes in the improvement of health of low-income people. It additionally manages the State Child Fatality Advisory Committee, which examines cases related to unexpected and unexplained child death in South Carolina.
