Action for a Better Community, established in 1965, is a community action agency that encourages, supports, and develops self-sufficiency among low-income families in Monroe and Ontario counties in New York. The agency is governed by board of directors, comprised of one-third private-sector representatives, one-third public-sector representatives and one-third consumer-sector representatives. Its Head Start program provides low-income children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically. The agency s Child Development Center is accredited with the National Association for the Education of Young Children. ABC Enterprise Center is a facility providing training and technical assistance to start-up and emerging businesses. Its Welfare-to-Work program provides a comprehensive array of services, including case management, job readiness training, job placement and followup. Action for a Better Community is located in Rochester, N.Y.
