- ArthritisYour immune system normally guards your body against invaders, such as bacteria. It produces antibodies and cells to fight off the bad germs. With an immune system disorder, the body mistakes part of itself as the enemy and attacks it – usually your joints, skin or tissue, although all diseases are different. For example, in the case of rheumatoid arthritis, the immune system produces antibodies that attack the lining of the joints. This causes inflammation, swelling, pain and, if left untreated, permanent joint damage. In the case of type 1 diabetes, the immune system mistakenly attacks an organ, the pancreas. In this case your Endocrinologist may refer you to, or work with the Ruheumatology department.
- FibromyalgiaThe basic theory behind pain is that, in order for there to be pain, it must have a nerve supply, be susceptible to injury, and stimulation should cause pain. More than 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain, the kind that doesn’t go away. It’s defined as pain that lasts three months or longer. Examples include arthritis, Shingles, Fibromyalgia, frequent migraines, back and neck injuries, muscular and surgical pain that doesn’t heal correctly.

This must be retaken every ten years. In addition, they receive continuing education in the field every year.
- Primary CareInfectious disease (ID) specialists are physicians with extra training in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. Many infections can be treated by your primary care provider. However, your doctor may refer you to an ID specialist if the infection is accompanied by a high fever or doesn’t respond to treatment. After that, we’ll set up a hearing test. It’s easy and totally painless. You’ll sit in a quiet room and wear headphones. Then your hearing care professional will ask you to listen to tones. - Family PracticeSome people prefer the idea of one doctor who can treat their entire family’s illnesses for continuity of care. Family practitioners can treat patients as young as infants through adulthood. Knowing an entire family can also make it easier to capture patient history. Female patients can even go to their family practice physician instead of a gynecologist for routine pap smears. But you also don’t have to have a family to see a family practitioner. While it’s true that some family medicine doctors can also have specialties, their focus is primarily on outpatient care of patients of all ages.
