Carytown Optical fitted me with a pair of glasses to use specifically for working on the computer. I was constantly struggling with my bifocals to focus on the computer screen and experienced a sore neck also from tilting my head back. I cant believe the difference that the new eyeglasses make. I wish I had known about this option sooner. Carytown Optical fitted me with a really cool looking pair that I keep at work only. They were so helpful in explaining the difference this prescription would make. I love their selection. They offer a boutique selection you wont find in any other optical store in Richmond. The pricing is reasonable and the personalized service was great.

We had an awesome experience picking out prescription Ray-Ban Sunglasses for my 93year old Daddy. What a fun place. He sports his cool shades everyday! Daddy insisted on getting aviator sunglasses like he wore in the navy for 25 years. He's much smaller now and none would fit. Cynthia special ordered an extra small pair with longer temples. We Colohans greatly appreciate Cynthia's attention to detail and TLC.

Coolest optical boutique in Richmond. It's as nice as many I've been to in D.C or NewYork. Warm and comfy. They carry frames that you would never know existed and out of the stuff that lasts.

After meeting the staff at Carytown Optical by stopping in for an adjustment on eyeglasses I didn't buy there, I knew I had found my new eyeglass store. f I picked up my new rimless Swissflex frames and clip on with new multifocal, no line lenses. It was a huge change for me having always worn line bifocals and "boring" ( according to Cynthia) metal frame. I am so glad thatI recived the advice to take the leap to the multifocal even though they did take me two weeks to get fully used to them. The usefulness of the multifocal lenses for store shelves and the computer and just life in general is something I should have done a long time ago. The rimless Swissflex frames are still light looking but definitely more updated looking. But more than that , they are the most comfortable pair of eyeglasses I have ever owned. The service was fast and professional but also fun. Thank you Carytown Optical.

I wouldn't go anywhere else for my eyeglasses. I went to Carytown Optical at least three times for adjustments on eyeglasses that I didn't even buy there and I was treated so kindly and well and like a person that when I needed a new pair that shoppe was the only store that came to mind. Since then I can say I've gotten more compliments on my glasses than I ever had in my whole life of wearing glasses and they feel good and all of that makes me feel like a million bucks. And I never have to get them adjusted except when my neice got a hold of them and I was glad she did so that I could go back in to see Cynthia , Thanks to the ladies at Carytown Optical, Steve

I just got a new pair of eye glasses from Carytown Optical . The frame is solid and really nice and wide enough for my head. They are John Varvatos. I am really really happy with the Zeiss lenses . I have had no problems with my first pair of progressive except for taking a day or so to get used to all the extra clarity. The most amazing thing was working with the owner, Cynthia who was so pleasant and funny and genuinely concerned about taking time with me and this was AFTER having gone through a fire! I went to their temporary location which is right by the original shoppe (which I had found on line...I like her other reviews) I expected the temporary location to be very "sad" after a fire but It was bright and fresh and upbeat and I thought..."Wow"....Go see Carytown Optical for your eyeglasses. You'll be glad .

Carytown Optical is a real find. Wow, what a treat compared to going to a box optical store. I got my first pair of Silhouette rimless frames. The help available to me to go through all of the many many choices in lens shapes and frame styles was very welcome. It's a small shop but packed full of funky frames. There were lots of chunky black frames and tortoise frames but the Silhouette frames won out for me because of comfort. I also like the Silhouette rimless eyeglasses because I don't see a dark border or frame. Carytown Optical feels like a little European type shop. At least check it out before going to the same old same old. My brother was with me and picked up a great pair of Wiley X sunglasses that have a spongy insert to keep the wind out. We hadn't seen anything like it at the mall.

DETAILS
General Info
Optometrists frequently have discussions with eyeglass-wearing patients in regard to the option of trying out contact lenses. Patients are often hesitant about trying contact lenses for the first time or have been told in the past that they were not the ideal candidate for contact lenses. Certainly, contacts are not the best option for everyone, but many people who have been told in the past that glasses were their only option are, in fact, potentially missing out on a safe and convenient vision-correcting alternative to eyeglasses. Patients often say that they cant wear contacts because of their astigmatism, or that the only contact option for them would be hard lenses, also known as gas permeable lenses. Other patients have assumed or have been told by another doctor that they would not make good contact lens wearers because of their need for bifocals or reading glasses. Other patients have tried contacts, but have given up because they had difficulty putting them in or taking them out, because they found them a bit irritating, or due to cost. Some patients like to wear glasses on an everyday basis, but would be interested in wearing contacts for special occasions, but are hesitant because of the additional cost. There are solutions to all of these issues if a patient has a doctor who is willing to spend a little extra time working with them to address their individual needs and concerns. Dr. Gates is an optometrist who specializes in toric and multifocal contact lens fits. Toric contact lenses are made for people with astigmatism. Multifocal contact lenses provide vision correction for patients with presbyopia, who would normally wear bifocals, trifocals, progressive lenses, or reading glasses. Monovision is another method of contact lens correction available for these patients. He will discuss the available options with his patients and make recommendations based upon their personal visual needs. He will work to find the right contact lenses for each patient, even if it takes a few extra attempts to find those perfect lenses. Dr. Gates is also experienced in dealing with contact lens problems. If your contact lenses feel too dry or irritating, he has suggestions to help increase the comfort. If your eyes become irritated, inflamed, or infected, Dr. Gates has the training, experience, and expertise to take care of you to help restore your health. If your vision is not perfect, he knows how to make adjustments to the contact lens pre ion to help improve your eyesight. Here at Carytown Optometry, we are not trying to push as many patients in and out of our exam chair, but we are trying to provide an experience that will bring satisfied patients back year after year. If you are interested in trying contact lenses for the first time, or the first time in a long time, or if you want to see if you can switch from irritating gas permeable contact lenses into soft contact lenses, we will take the time to teach you how to insert and remove
