The appraisal process consists of: 1. Defining the assignment (effective date of valuation, purpose and function of the valuation, the standard of value to be applied) 2. Gathering the relevant facts (financial, economic, industry, market transactions) 3. Analyzing the facts (spreadsheets, charts, studies) 4. Determining the value (utilizing various approaches and methods, weighting, correlating values, sanity checks) 5. Reporting the final estimate or range of value in an understandable and replicable manner 6. Performing all of the above in compliance with the Professional Standards of the Institute of Business Appraisers 7. Certifying the valuation as per the requirements of the Institute of Business Appraisers IT IS A REQUIREMENT OF ALL CERTIFIED APPRAISERS THAT THEIR VALUATIONS BE INDEPENDENT AND FREE OF ADVOCACY.
