Established in 1919, Braille Institute is a private nonprofit organization that offers services to visually impaired individuals. With a location in Rancho Mirage, Calif., the organization offers career development services for children, teenagers and adults between the ages of 6 and 30. It offers a range of physical activities, such as rock climbing, air surfing and water rafting. Braille Institute provides information on diabetes, macular degeneration and eye diseases. The organization additionally offers vocational training and employment services. It conducts recreational activity classes in music, history, arts and writing. Braille Institute s community outreach programs organize educational and enrichment classes at more than 100 locations throughout Southern California.
