      WakeMed, established in 1961, is a nonprofit health care facility offering medical diagnosis and treatment for heart diseases, brain trauma, allergies, diabetes, arthritis, ear and throat infections, and cancer. It areas of specialization include cardiology, endocrinology, neurology, hematology, oncology, urology, ophthalmology, gynecology and dermatology. The imaging services offered by the hospital include mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, radiology, and ultrasound and CT scans. The cardiopulmonary services offered by the hospital include aerosol inhalation therapy, cardiac stress testing, airway management, cardiac rehabilitation, Holter monitoring, mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, postural drainage and percussion, pulmonary function testing and ventilator management. The additional services offered by the hospital include diabetic assessment and consultation, wound management, glucose screenings, smoking cessation classes, nutrition counseling, and sports medicine and discharge planning.
