- VaccinationDogs that are exposed to other dogs in boarding, daycare, dog park, and dog show environments are at greatest risk of infection. The virus can also survive in the environment for 2 days and be viable on hands and clothing for up to 24 hours. Canine Influenza Virus is contagious to other dogs but there is no evidence that it can be transmitted to humans. For those who wish to vaccinate their dog(s), there is a single vaccination available for both strains of CIV (H3N8 and H3N2). A booster vaccine is required 2-4 weeks after the first CIV vaccine to provide any benefit. If your dog has been vaccinated in the past 36 months, only one shot is required.

- Comprehensive ExaminationToday's modern anesthetic monitors have made surgery much safer than in the past. Here at Swift Creek Animal, we do a thorough physical exam on your pet before administering anesthetics, to ensure that a fever or other illness won't be a problem. We also adjust the amount and type of anesthetic used depending on the health of your pet.
- Parasites Treatment and Control
- Behavioral Disorder TreatmentWe offer indoor climate-controlled boarding for both cats and dogs. Larger dogs stay in concrete runs while smaller dogs are housed in stainless steel cages. Dogs are leash-walked three times daily in our fenced-in yard. Cats stay upstairs away from the dogs in our cat room. We provide bedding, bowls, and food for your pet. If you pet has special dietary needs or medications please bring those with you. To ensure the safety of our boarders and hospitalized patients, it is our policy that all dogs must be current on their rabies vaccine, distemper parvo vaccine, bordetella vaccine (every 6 months), canine influenza vaccine, and fecal exam (annual). For cats, our policy requires that they are current on their rabies vaccine, feline distemper vaccine, and fecal exam (annual). We strongly prefer that these vaccines are updated several days prior to their stay. All vaccine history must be emailed or faxed at 919-233-1899 or scahfrontdesk@gmail.com prior to the schedule drop-off date.
- Pain ManagementAnything that causes pain in people can be expected to cause pain in animals. Pets may not show the same symptoms of pain as people do; they usually don't whine or cry, but you can be sure they feel it. Pain medications needed will depend on the surgery performed. Major procedures require more pain relief than things like minor lacerations.
- Vomiting Treatment
- Skin Condition and Allergy TreatmentWe offer Royal Canin Veterinary Diets for pets who require specialized diets. These foods can aid in the treatment of conditions including kidney disease, food allergies, arthritis, and many others.
- Injury Treatment
- Bacterial and Viral Infection TreatmentThe signs of CIV include a moist cough, runny nose, eye discharge, lethargy, and a reduced appetite. In more severe cases, dogs may develop a high fever and pneumonia (possibly due to a secondary bacterial infection). Infected dogs should be isolated from other dogs for 2 weeks.
- Kidney Disease Treatment
- Wound and Fracture Care
- Veterinary SurgeryWe offer two levels of blood testing before surgery, which we will go over with you when you bring your pet in. For apparently healthy and young pets (6 and under) that are coming in for routine surgeries such as a spay or neuter, we are able to do an In-House test the morning of surgery. For pets that are considered senior patients (7 and up), our doctors prefer the more comprehensive screen, because it gives them the most information to ensure the safety of your pet. This panel will have to be completed 2-3 days before the procedure, as it is sent to our lab for screening. For geriatric or ill pets, additional blood tests, electrocardiograms, or x-rays may be required before surgery as well.
