General Info
David S. Neufeld, J.D., LL.M. (Taxation) has practiced law for 30 years. Although admitted to practice law in New Jersey and New York, he represents clients in federal tax matters (both planning and controversy) and as an expert witness throughout the United States. David advises individuals, entrepreneurs and family offices on sophisticated wealth planning (encompassing income tax, estate tax, executive compensation, asset protection, insurance and investment planning) and fiduciary due diligence. He also advises insurance and wealth management institutions on programs, including "private placement life insurance" and captive insurance companies, that deliver to their clients cost efficient risk mitigation along with tax efficient investment opportunities. In addition, David is highly sought after to consult with taxpayers and their legal, accounting and insurance advisors when tax planning does not have the intended results, including Form 8886 filings (and non-filings), the resulting tax audits and tax litigation and the consequential civil litigation (plaintiffs and defendants). Years of work as an international tax lawyer has brought David into close contact with businesses around the world who rely on him to facilitate cross-border transactions. David is past chair of the Insurance & Financial Planning Committee of the Real Property, Trust & Estate (RPTE) Section of the American Bar Association and holds other leadership positions within RPTE. In 2006 David became Chairman of the Synergy Summit, a "United Nations" of the leaders of the ABA, AICPA, SFSP, NAELA, NAEPC and ACTEC. In 2007 David was appointed ABA Advisor to the NCCUSL drafting committee for the "Uniform Insurable Interest in Trust Law." David is internationally recognized for his work with private placement life insurance, offshore asset protection, and tax structuring using life insurance. Acknowledged for his pioneering work with domestic and offshore limited liability company law, including chairing the Limited Liability Company Task Force for the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Tax Section and drafting the Caribbean island of Nevis’ LLC ordinance, Mr. Neufeld was one of only four lawyers in the state to be awarded the New Jersey State Bar Association’s 1998 "Advocacy Award" and has been designated an Accredited Estate Planner® by the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils. David is rated "AV Preeminent" by Martindale-Hubbell, its highest rating based on technical skill and ethics, and has been included in the lists of New Jersey's Top Rated Lawyers® and Super Lawyers® in the area of tax and estate planning. Having received his A.B. from Duke University, his J.D. cum laude from New York Law School and his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law, David served a two-year appointment as attorney-advisor to Judge Julian I. Jacobs of the United States Tax Court. David has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Prosperity New Jersey and was on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Asset Protection Journal. Mr. Neufeld has published over 25 articles and has addressed audiences around the world on the areas of his expertise, as well as having been featured in BusinessWeek, Medical Economics, The Wall Street Journal and CNBC, among others. David’s hobbies include stand-up comedy.
