The Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response supports government agencies in dealing with emergencies. Its divisions include fire investigation, hazardous materials, fire police response team, training, fire prevention and public safety, emergency management, critical incident stress management and communications. The department offers various fire training courses that include training tower, two-story live burn, mask confidence and firefighter survival simulator courses. Its fire police response team provides scene safety and control, directs citizens and traffic away from hazards and assists police officers in crowd control. The Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response also provides emergency dispatch services. Its office is located in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
