- Dental Examination
- X-rays
- Teeth CleaningAs a first step, a physical examination of your mouth is done by your dentist. A small mirror is used to inspect your teeth and gums for any signs of gingivitis or other possible diseases. If there are no major problems detected, the dentist proceeds with the clean-up. A scaler is used to eliminate the plaque and tartar around the gum line and between the teeth. The tartar is scraped from the teeth. Once the teeth are rid of tartar, the dentist will brush them with a high-powered electric brush using gritty toothpaste, which smells and tastes like normal toothpaste. An expert flossing will ensure the further removal of any leftover plaque or toothpaste from the initial cleaning process. Next, your mouth is rinsed with a liquid fluoride to get rid of any remaining fragments.
- Fluoride Treatment
- Dental SealantsA dentist first examines the infected tooth. A radiograph of the tooth is taken using x-rays. Local anesthesia is given to the patient to numb the tooth. The doctor will make a small hole on the top of the tooth, and the infected or damaged pulp is removed from the pulp chamber and root canals to shape the filling space. Specialized tools like tiles are used for this purpose. The hole is cleaned and shaped, and the canals are filled with a biocompatible material. The root canals are sealed with adhesive cement. The sealant helps in preventing the canals from being damaged by saliva. After a few days’ time interval, the dentist will place a custom-made crown on the treated tooth to safeguard and restore it to its normal function.
- FillingsGold Fillings:These fillings are composed of a mix of gold, copper, and other metals. It is costly but at the same time durable. It may also lead to increased sensitivity of the tooth. But it does not give a natural look. Gold fillings are manufactured in a dental lab after impressions of the tooth are taken.
- Resin CompositeIn the next step, the dentist bonds the composite resin to the existing tooth. This is done by first roughening the surface of the tooth and applying the bonding agent. The rough surface thus created makes it easy for the liquid composite to stick. The composite resin is fixed and molded to repair the damaged portion of the tooth. The resin material is then hardened with ultraviolet light. If required, the dentist can further shape the tooth even if the resin has hardened.
- Gold RestorationsThey are partial tooth-colored or gold restorations that replace smaller areas of the missing or damaged tooth structure. They are less invasive than the crowns, and the repairs are carried outside of the mouth.
- VeneersI went in as an emergency appointment for an infected tooth. My tooth had a very deep cavity. Doctor Pishdad did a filling behind my veneer without breaking the veneer. I was very happy not to have to pay all the extra costs of a new veneer he is very conscientious about charging you for all the extra things you may not need. He’s very experienced and I fully trust him. He did not give me a shot and I did not feel any pain which is miraculous by itself. I have since been back to him for other dental work and have recommended him to my friends and family.
- CrownsDental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that are fixed over the tooth. There are several causes due to which your teeth might get damaged, ranging from tooth decay, injuries, or just normal wear and tear. A dental crown safeguards the tooth, simultaneously improving its appearance. It restores the shape, size, and function of the tooth. The crowns are customized to match the shade of the surrounding teeth. It covers the visible portion of a tooth when it is fixed on it.
- BridgesFixed Bridges: This type is perfect for patients with multiple missing teeth. It involves using both healthy teeth and artificial anchors as abutments. It is also economical in major replacements.
- Dental BondingThey can fill cavities, repair cracked or chipped teeth and hide the surfaces of discolored teeth. These dental bonding also helps fill small gaps between the teeth.
- Restorative DentistryThe main aim of restorative dentistry is to save teeth and restore the natural look, shape, and feel of the natural teeth. This goal is achieved with the following measures...
- Root Canal TreatmentThe root canal procedure’s main aim is to remove the bacteria from the infected root canal, stop the relapse of infection, and save the natural tooth. The inside of the tooth has a soft tissue called the pulp. A fully grown tooth can exist without the pulp, as the tissues surrounding it can nourish the tooth. At the root canal procedure, the tooth’s infected pulp is extracted, cleaned, and disinfected. The tooth is then packed with a medicated material and sealed. This treatment is relatively painless and helps save a tooth.
- Deep CleaningLast month I went to Potomac Dental for a routine deep cleaning and had a very positive experience. The dentist who attended to me, Dr. Simchian, was calm & professional. During my visit, he was joined briefly by the other dentist Dr. Pishdad. Collectively, they informed me that they had noticed an erosion on the tops of several of my molars. They suggested a mouth guard that could act as a preventative barrier against the erosion caused by the grinding. The attendant quickly made a molding of my teeth and receptionist scheduled a follow-up appointment for the following week.
- DenturesDentures are appliances that replace the missing teeth and are removable. They help in the restoration of your smile. - Flap SurgeryIf the inflammation continues in areas that are not accessible to brushing and flossing, the dentist may advise on a surgical procedure called flap surgery to clean the deposits under your gums. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, where the gums are lifted, and the roots of the teeth are cleaned thoroughly. The gums are stitched back into position. In case there is a loss of bone, a bone grafting procedure may be conducted to regenerate the lost bone.
- Tooth ExtractionsTooth Extraction is a regular dental procedure. It comprises the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. The tooth is extracted so that it does not affect the adjoining teeth. It cannot be avoided in cases such as severe tooth decay, damage, or serious injury to the tooth. Dental extractions are deemed to be fit as the gums have a natural repairing quality. The procedures are considered to be safe and practical.
