- Ankle SurgeryLena has a passion for the art of healing in dance. She has been a classical ballet dancer herself since childhood with early exposure and curiosity to physical therapy for dancers. An ankle surgery early in her dance career took her off pointe and initiated her path to becoming a physical therapist. Despite her injuries, through her studies she was able to heal herself and continue dancing professionally. She was able to help her fellow dancers reach their goals and in dance as well. She understands in her own body and her experiences, the various stressors and physical demands this art form can take. She is so grateful for what physical therapy has done for her and therefore would like to fulfill her mission of helping others take away the body’s physical barriers to dance freely.
- Joint ReplacementNerve endings within each joint sense muscle effort and joint position. This positional awareness is called proprioception. While proprioception is distinct from our tactile sense, a loss of sensation in the feet, or reduced input from a joint following surgery or joint replacement may affect how well your body is able to use this information. Mild joint compression can increase the sensitivity and effectiveness of the proprioceptive system, which allows our therapists to carefully design a program to help you best integrate this information into balance training.
