Arrived to Portland 2230. Used wheelchair assist from gate to taxi stand. Went to first available cab. Toyota Corolla. Gave destination- hotel 1 1/2 miles from airport. Hyatt Place Hotel. Driver seemed aloof/ hostile. Did not assist wife or myself. When I opened the front passenger door to move the seat forward after I could not get in back because of lack of leg room- he stated yelling- “NoFront”- and finally understood what I was doing. After departure I noticed he had the meter off. He did not answer any questions. We drove a circuitous route— more than a mile and 1/2. When we arrived at door- I said “ How much?” He said 30 dollars! What could I say? I paid. He sat on his butt in the driver seat. Hit the trunk latch and neither assisted my wife or I with luggage, despite my using a cane. I’m 72. My bad. Beware of rude and dishonest drivers. Ask questions first. I would have normally tipped this guy if he was at all the professional that I expected. He was rude, dishonest and surly. My bad for trusting without asking.Avoid TMX!
