Recently, my insurance benefit...

Recently, my insurance benefits became available for a new pair of frames and lenses. I shopped around and set up a few appointments and looked at the different frames and the price ranges of the frames from store to store, Lenscrafters, Visionworks, etc..

Well, I went to this store to do the same thing and every pair of their frames were marked up between 90-150 dollars of the MSRP and all the stores I had visited before-hand. I went online and checked the prices of several pairs of frames they had for sale and everything was marked-up substantially.

After noticing this, I called in and brought it up with the person on the phone and asked why is everything marked up so high and if I brought in a price match would we be able to do so, they said, we can do a price match, but you can't use your insurance if you do. She said, that would be like two discounts. Discounting me from you already marked-up prices? If I don't use my insurance, I spend $130.00 on a pair frames, or I use my insurance that covers up to $140.00 for frames and spend $90.00 out of pocket? I am sorry, but it sounds like you guys are taking advantage of people. If I go in, use my benefits, you guys are getting the full price of the frames back and then getting an additional $90-150.00?

That is fowl business. I canceled my appointment. There is no reason to sell something 100 dollars more than everyone else and justify it by saying, "I have insurance." Go to Visionworks, or Lenscrafters, they actually sell their frames at the suggested retail value.

If they are going to jack-up their prices, I would guess other shady business practice happens here as well.

Thanks

I have been wearing corrective lenses for over 45 years. I have been seeing Dr. Gramanzini for the last decade, and have never had a problem.

I use Oakley & Silhouette eyewear, many national vision optical chains do not carry quality eyewear.
