He has served as the director of the Joint Institute at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano, and is active in teaching and research. Emerson's focus is on primary hip and knee surgery, especially less-invasive techniques. He offers hip surgery using the anterior supine approach, which helps patients recover faster with less pain. He also offers partial knee implants and total knee surgery using custom instrument guides designed exclusively for each patient.
