General Info
John McGarey LPC, BCIAC and Karen Adams LCSW, BCIAC have created LIFE COPING CONSULTS, a private practice Bio-Feedback and Counseling Service whose practice caters to children and adult patients suffering from various condition. Their groundbreaking practice utilizes biofeedback with group and/or individual counseling to help manage health and stress related disorders. Equipment monitors and displays information about the autonomic nervous system (breathing, circulation, heart rate and temperature) allowing you to learn self-regulation of these functions, such as controlling blood pressure.Electral signals in the muscle groups are monitored and displayed on the equipment (electromyograph). This feedback is useful for learning to relax individual muscle groups for pain relief, or re-training of muscle activity in paralysis. When you are not doing well physically or emotionally as you would like, or you have suffered a major trauma, gone through a major change, loss or a near death experience, LIFE COPING CONSULTS will support you in gaining clarity and making the necessary changes for your healing. Most physical illnesses have an emotional component that also needs healing. Working with that emotional component is called Psychophysiological Counseling. Research shows that the images you create in your mind can actively impact and influence your body and your emotions to respond just as they would to the real thing. It can be positive or negative depending on the images. Your mind can create images that keep you awake at night or help put you to sleep. You can also create images that make you anxious or that help you feel relaxed and safe. Imagery can often reduce the negative side effects of some treatments, such as chemotherapy for center. Visualizing the treatment as an ally may help the body create a gentler response to the therapy. There is continuing evidence demonstrating that properly applied imagery has a positive effect on immune system function. This is important in enhancing the body's ability to fight infection, as well as helping normalize the response in auto-immure (overactive immune) disease.
