The Pensacola Police Department, established in 1821, provides a variety of law enforcement services to the residents of the city of Pensacola, Fla. It has various divisions, including administrative, technical services, criminal investigation, uniform patrol and community services. The department has launched a Citizens Police Academy, which provides an insight into the philosophy and operations of the department. Its vice and narcotic unit investigates crimes that involve narcotics and vice operations, such as prostitution, gambling and pornography. The Pensacola Police Department s records division maintains files of original documents and disseminates copies as necessary to other police agencies and courts. It offers the Explorer program, which provides opportunities for young people to obtain the knowledge and experience of a career in law enforcement.
