Provided by YP.comIts almost as if they don't want to help the animals in the shelter. You are not allowed to look that the animals ( maybe the living quarters are not quite up to par) and the people who work there are dismissive and borderline rude - passive aggressive. I'm considering have authorities take a look at this place. I am not the only person to experience this behavior.

Provided by YP.comVery hard working and caring people who consistently put the needs of the animals ahead of their own.

Provided by YPmobileI gave this shelter 1 star because I understand the desire is there to do something good for animals. However this shelter has many systemic issues that need attendance. The first is the staff. They appear uneducated and unprofessional. The issue occurred when local schools required students to complete service hours. My daughter chose this place because she loves animals. It first began with her helping out but often feeling unwanted and staff behaving unprofessional. They did not explain their procedure for volunteering. Some days she showed up and was told she was not needed. Also the staff discussed personal issues such as their child's father was not sh*t. My daughter along with some of her peers wondered if the staff was racist because of their demeanor towards them. These are 16 and 17 year olds. Upon completing her hours she needed a letter. However she shelter does not have a fax or letterhead. The adminstrator then accuses my daughter of being dishonest. I know for a fact she completed all of her hours. You can not expect a teenager to implement new policies and procedures at an animal shelter. It is the shelter's responsibility to explain to All volunteers that there is a sign in book and a contact person. It is the shelter's responsibility to have professional and courtesy people work for them. Before the actual letter was typed by my daughter. The administrator told her to come then because she doesn't have time for this. My daughter leaves and goes straight to the shelter which was 20 minutes later. The administrator, Nancy had left. She intentionally was ignorant on the phone then purposely made her make a trip for nothing. I really believe leadership starts at the top. If administration behaves this way, staff behaves worst because it trickles down. It was a good learning experience for my daughter and it taught us to volunteer and donate to a different shelter.

Provided by YP.comthe most horrible and disgusting place I have ever dealt with..the overall conditions of the establishment are so gross and unsanitary. I contacted Nancy Welsh "owner of the Almost Home Animal Shelter" who the dog was given too while I fought to get him back. It took a year but I was able to beat the case. Nancy told me that my dog fell over and died. I do not believe this. Nancy is refusing to give my dog back and if it's true that he did die Nancy never offered any details to the cause of his death or who was caring for him when he "fell over and died". Nancy claims to love animals when in fact She should be charged with animal cruelty for KILLING MY DOG. I will not give up until justice is served.

Provided by YP.comI took a kitten away from a neighbor that wanted to kill it,
I called here to ask if they would take it and they said that they only take local animals, as they are a municipal shelter.
They advised I call Animal Welfare Society, Voorhees, NJ, a no kill shelter. 1 - 856 - 424 - 2288
They say there is a waiting list for all shelters and I would have to keep the kitten until a place became available.

Provided by YP.comThe staff is excellent. In addition to knowing about each animal there, they are also very knowledgable on dog behavior and training. Because of the location, the dogs are walked 3 times a day, and as such, are very socialized and walk well on leashes.
I also liked that they are very thorough--they called my vet do not allow an animal to be adopted without meeting all family memebers (including other dogs in the house).
I would definately suggest stopping by if you are looking for a family pet that you will be happy with (and that will be happy with you).

Provided by YP.comI was planning on adopting a kitten for my daughter's 5th birthday. I visited this shelter, and seen the perfect kitten for our family. I had filled out an application and called back after the weekend. It was all my daughter talked about the past 4 days, I was denied because I did not have a vet listed on the application. I had never owned a pet, other than when I was a little girl myself, so I never needed a vet!! When I contacted a vet in my area, and called the shelter back, they were then saying "things that I said during the interview process were not acceptable." I do not remember having an interview. I remember saying how adorable all the cats were, and wish I could take them all home with me...maybe thats cruelty?? Im confused. I wasnt able to speak to a manager because she wasnt in the office at the time, and "it wouldnt matter anyway because all of her decisions are final!." The staff was very nice, at the office, but very rude over the phone, not willing to further explain what was "said" during this fake interview. I would absolutely not recommend this shelter to anyone! Im tired of seeing commercials on TV about animals in shelters that need loving homes, and when one comes along, we're denied because of something that I supposedly said that Im not even aware of! Now, my daughters birthday is 10 days away and I'm in need of finding another kitten.
