The Department of Transportation works under the government of Pasadena, Calif., and designs, constructs, and operates state s transportation infrastructure systems, buildings, and other facilities for citizens. It maintains a planning and development division that is responsible for transportation planning and permitting for various projects. The department also reviews transportation and traffic impacts due to development projects, addresses neighborhood traffic issues, and reviews and analyzes other traffic-related capital improvement projects. The Department of Transportation s traffic engineering unit conducts traffic investigations in response to citizen requests for various traffic control devices, such as stop signs, parking restrictions and new traffic signals. It also handles engineering and traffic surveys, school zone signing and pavement markings, traffic control requirements and construction and filming permits. The department additionally enforces parking laws and issues citations.
