Built in 1896 by Standard Oil Company magnate Henry Flagler, The Breakers is a luxury beach resort located in Palm Beach, Fla. The resort is situated on 140 acres of oceanfront property and includes nearly 600 guestrooms, as well as restaurants, lounges, shops, golf courses, swimming pools and a luxury spa. It was twice destroyed by fire in 1903 and 1925 but in both instances was rebuilt within a year in Italian Renaissance-style architecture. Since 1990 more than $225 million has been invested in the renovation of the resort. The Breakers is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and has been a recipient of the American Automobile Association s Five Diamond Award.
