General Info

In January 1965, John Mitchum opened Mitchum Jewelers. He graduated from watchmaking and jewelry repair school at Bradley University in 1961. When Mitchum Jewelers first opened it was located on the Ozark Square, at that time, the hub of the retail community. In 1970, John moved to a bigger store that provided the room needed for the prospering business. As time went on, and word of mouth spread, John's business expanded to the point where he had to move again. In 1987, John moved his store to a third location. Once again, the store took on a whole new look and kept up with the times. Over the years, the store had evolved from primarily a repair shop to a complete fine jewelry store. The store has a full selection of fine gold jewelry and quality diamonds. We carry major watch brands and unusual designs in colored gemstones. Plus, we are still one of the premier repair shops in the area. Our jewelers are skilled and we take pride in maintaining fine jewelry. In 2001, John was joined by his son Randy in the store. Randy had always expressed an interest in jewelry, so he took to the work naturally. As time passed, Randy took on more responsibilities, and now he often oversees the store. The staff at Mitchum Jewelers is comprised of several long-term employees. They pride themselves on being reputable and helpful, and they show the daily enthusiasm that many stores can only wish for. Mitchum Jewelers has been in business for over 40 years, longer than any other jewelry store in the southwest Missouri area. Perhaps that family roots and friendly persona have contributed to the solid history. Our knowledge of the business and our desire to make friends who turn into customers has carried us here, and this philosophy will continue.
