- VaccinationEarly puppy socialization is extremely important before 5 months of age. Unfortunately, dog parks can sometimes do more harm than good in those first critical stages of development. Many parks do not require proof of vaccinations; do not have sufficient yard space to support the socialization needs of small dogs, large dogs, shy dogs, and gregarious dogs. At G.O.D.O.G.S. we strive to give every dog the experience he or she needs to suit each individual dog’s social aptitude!
- Veterinary OphthalmologyDr. Nicole Gerrish graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008, and has been a proud member of Shaffer Animal Hospital’s team ever since. Dr. Gerrish enjoys the variety of cases she sees, but has a special interest in behavior and ophthalmology. She is proud of the relationships she has built with clients who have become like family over the years of working together to care for their pets, and looks forward to continuing to make the hospital experience for patients as low-stress as possible. When she is not in the office, you can probably find her training for a marathon (she has run 26+ of them!), or traveling to hike in the mountains with her husband Steve. She has two rambunctious kitties, Mel Tucker and Tom Izzo.

- Comprehensive ExaminationNothing is more important than routine examinations and preventive medicine for your pet. Remember that your pet ages at a faster rate than we do. By 2 years old, they are similar to a 24 year old person, and then age about 4 years to every one of ours. This means that medical conditions can come
- Parasites Treatment and ControlOur pharmacy is stocked with a wide range of medications applicable to small animal medicine. This gives us the ability to send you home with any medications your pet may need that day. We also carry heartworm preventatives, flea control products and other supplies to give your pet the best
- Pain ManagementDr. Kelsey Smith graduated from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2023. She is so excited to be escaping the Indiana winters and venturing south to join the amazing team of doctors at Shaffer Animal Hospital in June of 2023! Dr. Smith enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, but her special interests include shelter medicine, general surgery, and alternative pain management. Outside of the veterinary world, she enjoys reading, going to the gym, listening to a good true crime podcast, and spending time in the sunshine with her husband and their two big-headed pit mixes, Toby and Louis.
- Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
- Parvovirus Infection TreatmentRabies, DHPP (Distemper, Canine Influenza (H3N2), Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus), Bordetella and a clean fecal exam. If your dog is under 6 months of age then he or she will not have completed the complete vaccination series yet but must be up to date for their recommended age. If you have any questions about that, please discuss with your veterinarian or send us a message.
- Feline Retro Virus TreatmentWe have the capability to perform diagnostic blood profiles, urinalysis, cytology, serologic tests (e.g. Occult Heartworm, Feline Leukemia Virus, Parvo), and routine parasite exams in-house. This means the results are available to us immediately which can be very important with a severely ill patient.

- Periodontal Disease TreatmentPreventative medicine such as labwork, annual exams and routine vaccinations is the best way to ensure your pet’s long term health. From your very first appointment, we can work with you to set up a preventative health care plan for your pet. As your pet matures, we offer more frequent check-ups and geriatric screening tests to detect many illnesses early, when they are easier to manage. We also recommend professional dental cleanings if needed, to treat periodontal disease and overall quality of your pet’s life.
