Community Living Opportunities, located in Shawnee Mission, Kan., focuses on helping adults and children with developmental disabilities. It is a nonprofit organization established in 1977 by a group of parents with children suffering from developmental disabilities, in Johnson County, Kan. The agency specializes in offering a wide variety of community-based programs and services to people with developmental disabilities. Community Living Opportunities implements several treatment models developed in partnership with the Applied Behavioral Sciences Department at the University of Kansas, including the Family Teaching Model, the Quality of Life Planning, Early Childhood Autism and Family Enhancement programs. It serves more than 300 children and adults with developmental disabilities primarily in Douglas and Johnson counties in Kansas, and employs over 400 staff members.
