Ok, So I hit Kroger Grocery first to see what they have in the way of "Manager Specials" on the stuff that either Save-a-Lot doesn't have or they just can't beat. I mean, who would pass on milk 4 half gallons for $5 or the Manager Special price tag that says that same half gallon of milk is only $0.98 just cause the 'sell by' date is only one or 2 days away. I don't know about you, but I consider myself lucky if that half gallon of milk lasts 2-3 days in my house. Anyway, the local Ottawa Save-a-lot is my all time favorite grocery store. It's clean as a whistle, nice, bright and cheery. Staff is tons helpful and Joe, the butcher, will cut anything you want; not make a any fuss over it at all and even order you stuff that they don't normally have though you might have to order it by the case if it's not something he thinks will sell well (oh darn, so I had to order a whole case of duck breasts and he gave me a really great price on them!). Produce is about the same price as Aldi's but so much better quality (they have the absolute BEST peaches in the summertime. I don't know where they get them, but no one elses are anywhere near as good.). Oh and I don't want to forget to mention the awesome little check out ladies. :^) Friendly and helpful and it's like dashing by a friends work to say a quick 'Hi!' as you do whatever else you had to do. I really hope that the owners of the store know how much the staff there adds to the whole experience. I'm over there once a week to do group shopping (Mum, me and sometimes my sister too all on the same run's worth of gas. With gas at these prices we don't waste any trips anywere if we can avoid it that's for blessed sure!) and it's always an enjoyable experience!
